Take a Mental Photo – A Mindfulness Practice

Have you ever taken a mental photo? It is when you see something amazing, you pause to fully take it all in. You might even close your eyes briefly, setting the mental picture in place in your mind.

The process of taking a mental photo might be a whole minute, longer or less for each individual. It is all about you taking the time to see the image and copy it into your mind.

Event things we take photos of can be duplicated with a mental photo.

To take a mental photo one cannot simply look out at something and walk away. That is the equivalent of quickly holding the camera up and “click” taking the photo before setting up the image.

To have a good image (in mind or by camera), there is a certain amount of care, attention and time needed to

Steps for taking a mental photo:

  • Find something beautiful, interesting or pleasing to the eye.
  • Pause and breathe. Become present where you are. Let go of distracting thoughts.
  • Make a mental picture. Soak in what you are seeing, taking time to see all the details.
  • If it helps, close your eyes to see the image in your mind.
  • Next, open your eyes and take it all in once more.

This is a fun activity for beings of all ages. Have fun with this mindfulness practice!
