FAQs

What is meditation?

Meditation is a formal practice of focusing our attention - either on the breath, other object or clarity in the mind.

What kind of yoga will be taught?

This is a gentle class focusing on alignment and relaxation. It is open to all levels. Options to make the poses more challenging will be offered.

What do I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a yoga mat or blanket to sit and/or stretch on.

Why donuts?

We want to make this a fun event, and what makes things more fun? Donuts!

I've never meditated or done yoga before, should I attend?

Yes, please do! These classes are open to beginners and long-time meditators and yoga practitioners. Participants will be guided through the class. This is an excellent opportunity to come and try out meditation, yoga or both.

What is the cost?

This class is offered on a sliding scale. Suggested donation is $20. If you are in between jobs or don't make a living wage, we want to make yoga and mediation accessible to everyone which is why there is a sliding scale which means pay what you can.

Are the classes family friendly?

The yoga and meditation are geared towards adults. If your child can follow an adult class, they are most welcome to participate. Children who can play quietly near you are also welcome to come along. We want to make this class open to parents and ask that you keep in mind other adults are attending for a relaxing experience.

What if it rains or the class is cancelled for another circumstance?

If it rains, we will try to reschedule. If the date or availability of students doesn't work out, you will be refunded due to rain cancellations.

How will I know if class is cancelled?

The registration form requests your email and/or phone number to receive a text or email. Announcements will also be posted on the Awareness of Mind website. A minimum number of 5 registrants are needed for the class to be held. If you register and not enough people register for the class, you will be fully refunded your donated class fee.

Can I cancel and get a refund?

No refunds will be issued. Any donations received for a class and the person does not show, the donation will be sent to support a yoga program at the Grace Nanana School in Kenya.

If the class is cancelled due to weather or lack of participants, you will receive a refund.

Meet the Teacher

Jen Potocnik (she/her) offers fun and engaging meditation and yoga classes. Classes are open to beginners and all levels.

Jen has been teaching adults and children since 2015. Her yoga practice began in 2000 in a hot yoga studio in Portland, Oregon. Since then she has gone on to study a variety of methods. Today, Jen's practice and teaching style stems from Iyengar and Astanga teachings.

While initially introduced to meditation through yoga, Jen's practice of meditation deepened through her studies in Theravada Buddhism. She has completed formal training programs and certifications to teach both yoga and meditation in a secular manner.

I enjoy learning and teaching with a smile. I offer a welcoming environment. Sharing meditation, mindfulness and yoga with others helps me grow in my own practice.
