Support Girls' Education
You can make a difference in the life of a student in Kenya.
In July 2023, Jen volunteered her time and resources to teach mindfulness and yoga at Grace Nanana Education & Rescue Centre in Kajiado, Kenya.
This was the first time students learned about yoga and mindfulness.

The need
Supporting mental health and education for girls in Kenya
The pandemic had a huge impact on people around the world. In Kenya (like many places), there is an increased need for mental health support. The students at Grace Nanana Education & Rescue Centre will be introduced to yoga and mindfulness for the first time this summer.
Grace Nanana Education & Rescue Centre
Currently, 108 students are enrolled in the school. Of which 30 students are girls who have escaped gender-based violence and harmful cultural practices.
Support Student Fees
Education is not free in Kenya. There are school fees for students to attend school. For $500, you can support a student in school for one year. Or donate a smaller amount towards resources and other materials.
What
Through the nonprofit IPM, Jen worked in Kenya in 2005 and has kept in touch with the school over the years. In learning there is a need for mental health support and interest in mindfulness, Jen is volunteering to teach yoga and mindfulness to students..

why Kajiado, Kenya?
The Connection to Kenya
Jen first met Priscila Nangurai in 2005. She was the principal of a nearby school in Kajiado, Kenya (a city between Nairobi and the Tanzania border in a rural area). They have remained in touch since then. Impressed by Priscilla's commitment to education and supporting girls who are escaping violence and want to continue their education, Jen is looking forward to sharing what she teaches in NYC public schools to students in Kenya.

Learn more about Grace Nanana Education & Rescue Centre
The Maasai girls who come to Grace Nanana Rescue Centre are the most at-risk – orphans, runaways or abandoned.
The school provides shelter, food, clothing and nurturing care; helping them develop personal confidence and occupational skills to reach their full potential.
In turn, these girls grow into self-supporting, independent women who will help lift their communities out of poverty to a sustainable future.
